a u t e c h r e

I keep missing these chaps in concert but have tons of their live gigs on the iPod - the Glasgow "untilted" one being escpecially good. Anyway here's an interview with them - they consistantly do very good interviews with none of the usual cynical "media-savy" baggage that so many have to spout. It's all about the music...

(Nice little-up to "burial" too.)

"Quaristice" Review:

Well I've listened to the album about 5 times now and am only beginning to detect its brilliance. This is classic Autechre.....the melodies and ambiance grabs you over time and it makes for such a rewarding listen in a sound-byte fast-food world. The atmosphere is warm and fuzzy and where is vocal elements its done in that lovely Autechre way of evoking a sort of interstellar friendship... sort of reminds me of the lost soul of the cpatain in the film "Dark Star" - haunting, melancholic, nostalgic. This album also give different impressions when heard through headphones or speakers - can't wait to hear the live version that autechre always do so well. Indeed a good chunk of this album has elements taken from their last live tour.
Oh i found a very funny piss-take review on youtube - after some poor chappy attempted a serious one - seriously flawed! Comedy gold if you dig the over-analysis of electronica that can happen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sClke4ubuZk .

Japanese Winter Wonderland

Coming soon..... a few snaps and pictures of my Jan trip to Yamagata prefecture for Budo and snowboarding and of course Onsen!

Top5athon - kicking the year off with some oomph

The annual top5athon goes like this:

Submit to the host your top 5 pieces of music you enjoyed listening to most this year
This can be homemade stuff, movie soundtracks, old faves, t
ributes to dead musicians or even the sound of your newborn's first passing of the wind.

The host sets up a playlist of all the 5's, then the 4's etc etc. By the time it gets to the 1's everyone's really drunk and in great form.

This is the 3rd year in a row I think and myself and Aoife gave it our best shot. I had my iMac up and an FM transmitter patching it through 2 stereos. Over the evening latecomers arrived with cds, usb keys, ipods and vinyl so I was kept pretty darn busy setting everything up to run fruit smoothily.

I'll post up as much of the top 5 I can bring together from all the sources I have by next week
and even make some cds of what I can. Watch this space

There's loads missing chaps so email me or comment here to fill in the bl_anks...

I got handed tons of cds and mp3 devices on the night so am missing Ruairi, Jenny, Orla, Siobhan Ni C's, Siobhan P's, Regan, Owens and probably loads more. Also there's a small creative zen player in our flat that no-one's claimed yet!! It's an ankle biter!

So without further ado - here we go!!!
